Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST Students
Introduction:
In a bid to foster educational inclusivity and empower students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in West Bengal, the Backward Classes Welfare Department, under the Government of West Bengal, has introduced the Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST Students for the academic year 2023-24. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students from Class 11 up to the postgraduate level, enabling them to pursue their education unhindered by financial constraints.
Scholarship Details:
The scholarship offers a maintenance allowance ranging from INR 220 to INR 1,200, based on the course of study and residential status of the student. Additionally, it covers tuition fees and non-refundable fees, if applicable, ensuring comprehensive support for the educational journey of SC/ST students.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
– Domicile of West Bengal
– Belong to the SC/ST category
– Enrolled in Class 11, 12, graduation, or postgraduation
– Annual family income exceeding INR 2,50,000
Application Process:
1. Visit the official portal and click on the ‘Apply Now’ button.
2. If not registered, proceed to register by providing necessary details; otherwise, log in using existing credentials.
3. Navigate to ‘Student’s Registration’ and select the district where the institute is located.
4. Complete the registration form, ensuring all required details are accurately filled.
5. Upload essential documents including caste certificate, income certificate, academic certificates/mark sheets, and disability certificate if applicable.
6. Submit the form to complete the application process.

Benefits:
The scholarship offers varying rates of maintenance allowance based on the course of study:
– Group 1: INR 1,200 for Medical/Engineering/B.Sc(Agri)/M.Phil/P.hd/L.L.M for hostellers, and INR 550 for day scholars.
– Group 2: INR 820 for B.Pharm/B.Nursing/L.L.B/Hotel Management/Postgraduate courses for hostellers, and INR 530 for day scholars.
– Group 3: INR 750 for general courses up to graduate level for hostellers, and INR 300 for day scholars.
– Group 4: INR 750 for Class 11 and 12 in (10+2) system for ITI/intermediate/polytechnic courses for hostellers, and INR 220 for day scholars.
